Instead of eBox Platform: Zentyal 2.0
Zentyal is the new name of eBox Platform, a Linux distribution based on Ubuntu server-oriented.
Today was announced, Zentyal version 2.0, the first version of that name. Ebox-Platform is a serious competitor to Windows SBS that bases its strength on free software.
Today, September first, comes in version 2.0. And there are not only a new version but a new name: Zentyal 2.0.
And I'm lucky, I have nothing to translate, since the announcement, is also in Castilian, so just copy and paste:
Zentyal users Hello!
Your favorite development team is very proud to introduce Zentyal 2.0. Zentyal (formerly eBox Platform) is a Linux small business server that can be used as Gateway (Gateway), Manager Unified Threat Management (UTM), Office Server, Infrastructure Manager, Server Unified Communications or a combination of these functions. Zentyal development began in 2004 and now is a solution enterprise-class Linux server that integrates more than 30 tools network management abiero code into a single technology.
Here's a recap of some of the innovations of this new version.
New distribution base: Ubuntu 10.04 'Lucid'. This implies a major change because all the Zentyal components are updated. Improved management software: the software management module has been completely renovated with improvements in usability and visual. Now part of Zentyal core and is also used as a graphical installer. Attendees also includes automatic configuration after installation.
Performance improvements: we have changed the old engine configuration (gconf) with a new one (redis) and this has improved the overall speed of Zentyal. There are also other performance improvements in migrations, especially in managing logs. more friendly graphical environment: We have gone from blackbox to lxde to provide a better user experience. The look of the Zentyal UI has also been improved.
New Zarafa module: provides all the basic functionality you need an SME Groupware (Calendar, Contacts, Tasks, with a very similar interface to Microsoft Exchange. Also it provides synchronization with mobile devices!
New FTP module: requested by many members of the community, provides an alternative to the classic Samba file sharing. Bridged mode: you can now deploy Zentyal between the WAN router and the internal network transparently. Web server with HTTPS support: you can now deploy web applications (webmail, Zarafa, or your own website) in a safe manner, integrated with the Zentyal Certification Authority (CA).
CA improvements: support for alternate names and ability to export and download PKCS12 files. re-written modules: Printers now based directly on the CUPS interface to add and automatically detect printers, which makes things much easier. Jabber has changed completely, now that is based on ejabberd and Zentyal MVC uses. PAM management directly from the Zentyal interface: You can convert users in LDAP users with shell access! Enter the Zentyal interface can be done now using different administrator accounts rather than a shared password. Reduced installer size (460MB only) from: now you can save time to download and burn to CD.
Note that this is a major release, based on a completely new distribution (Ubuntu 10.04 instead of 8.04). This means that migration could be a bit tricky, so be very careful to do it in production environments.
If you are upgrading a production team we recommend proceeding with caution and common sense. Always back up your system. We recommend using a virtual machine to install or upgrade your current configuration 1.4 to version 2.0. Check that everything works as expected and then perform the actual upgrade. Make sure that no regression with the feature set you are using.
Finally, if you need any support during migration, please ask our professional support.
